Apple’ s shift of its iPhone production for US-bound products from China to India and Vietnam is not a reactionary measure to tariffs, instead it is a long-term strategic evolution affecting procurement processes from acquisition through to pricing and customer satisfaction. CEO Tim Cook confirmed that for June 2025, the majority of iPhones sold in the US would have India as their origin, with Vietnam supplying almost all other devices.
Toyota Motor North America’ s procurement function is built on information and trust rather than contract enforcement. Toyota has been extensively mapping the supply chains of its suppliers, moving beyond compliance into strategic risk management, to identify risks in raw materials and semiconductors long before they can halt production. With around 80 % of vehicles sold in North America now produced there, the company has built geographic resilience into the foundation of its supply base.
Nike’ s tariff challenge illustrates what happens when years of costoptimised sourcing meets sudden geopolitical disruption and how procurement must respond. In 2024, Vietnam, China and Cambodia produced almost 60 % of all Nikebranded apparel and 95 % of all Nike footwear. Nike’ s CFO has since confirmed that the share of Chinaproduced footwear will drop to single digits by fiscal 2026, a significant structural shift in its sourcing strategy.
