SUSTAINABILITY

Over 1,000 procurement professionals descended on Duggal Greenhouse in New York for three days of bold ideas, unlikely connections, and a growing conviction that the way procurement works needs to change, fundamentally, and fast.

The theme of this year’ s DPW over in America – RECODE.
“ It’ s a pretty bold theme,” says Matthias Gutzmann, the Founder of DPW.
“ Since I founded DPW, we’ ve seen a lot of solutions coming through, a lot of tools, a lot of demos, a lot of pilots, but there’ s been a struggle around driving value beyond those pilots and scaling those solutions.”
Over the years, Matthias has seen a lot of activity around AI in large corporations, but little progress. He believes this is down to companies putting AI onto outdated operating models, broken processes and outdated systems.
“ The theme RECODE is really around the notion that we need to fundamentally reimagine how procurement gets done – basically reset, rewire, rebuild procurement to really take advantage of AI’ s capabilities,” says Mathias.
“ Sometimes you have to tear down the old to build the new – you can’ t build a castle on sand. Recode is really: let’ s take a step back, rebuild, and reimagine procurement, as opposed to just thinking about how to apply AI to make the current operating model or sourcing process 20 % faster.”
