Amazon Business Exchange brings procurement leaders from across industries and countries together. What do you think will be the single biggest challenge they’ ll all be talking about? What I love about ABX is the theme of procurement becoming a much more strategic part of organisations – and how to make that happen more quickly. I’ m sure there’ ll be lots of conversations about AI and what digitisation plus AI means for organisations. I believe that AI is going to transform the procurement function, helping teams to automate processes, invest more time in building stronger supplier relationships and grow their business.
In the UK and EU, how are businesses driving towards greater sustainability, and how is Amazon Business helping them reach those goals? A lot of businesses have ESG requirements and need to report on what they’ re doing. We’ ve been working with a specialist education and care provider in the UK to help them to get a handle on their fragmented data amid regulatory expectations, and embed sustainability into procurement and operational decision-making. As a result of establishing clear governance, reporting is now a practical management tool. What I really like about what Amazon Business does is that we’ ve built Amazon Business on top of the consumer site, but we’ ve also introduced guided buying policies, so customers can choose the policies

that matter to their organisation – and ESG is a core part of that. They can choose certified suppliers, local suppliers, or small businesses. Actually, a lot of customers already buy significantly from small businesses. Working with Amazon Business, The University of Glasgow was able to consolidate more than 90 accounts into one and increase sustainable purchasing as they had greater visibility of what was being purchased and from where.
