By granting access to IEMA ’ s training and resources , Diageo aims to expedite its journey towards realising the ambitious targets outlined in its ESG action plan , Society 2030 : Spirit of Progress . These objectives encompass attaining net zero carbon emissions from the direct operations ( Scopes 1 and 2 ) by 2030 , and extending this achievement across its entire value chain ( Scope 3 ) by 2050 or sooner .
Key to helping Diageo reach its net zero carbon target in its direct operations is the installation of energy efficiency across its culture and working towards using 100 % renewable energy , fuel and heat .
As well as reducing the amount of energy consumed by making its infrastructure more efficient and recovering as much energy as possible . The company is dedicated to using only renewable energy by 2030 , and has started many initiatives , such as ;
• Converting its energy renewable alternatives such as bioenergy and solar
• Creating additional renewable energy capacity to power its sites
• Moving its vehicles on to renewable and low emission alternatives
• Aiming to use the right fit technology with the lowest environmental impact across its lifecycle in each location , innovating and trailing new technologies through its innovation programme , Diageo Sustainable Solutions ( DSS ).
Diageo is aiming to reduce emission created within its supply chain , supporting opportunities in reducing its carbon footprint produced by the material it buys , the products it sources , and the services it needs to produce its brands .
It plans to embed a more collaborative and circular way to source the materials and services it relies on . This includes working with suppliers to accelerate decarbonisation , reducing the impact of its packaging by eliminating unnecessary packing , increasing recycled content and recyclability , prioritising low carbon transport and supporting sustainable practice for the producers of its raw materials and ingredients . procurementmag . com 71
