EcoVadis is one of the best-known names in supplier sustainability ratings, assessing suppliers across four themes:
• Environment
• Labour & Human Rights
• Ethics
• Sustainable Procurement
Its Global Supply Chain Sustainability Risk & Performance Index draws on ratings gathered over several years, reviewing tens of thousands of companies across hundreds of industries and countries, scoring suppliers on a 0 to 100 scale banded from‘ Insufficient’ to‘ Outstanding’.
Its scorecards, benchmarks, carbon action tools and improvement guidance are used by major organisations including Johnson & Johnson, L’ Oréal,
Unilever, Bridgestone, BASF and JPMorgan as part of their sustainable procurement programmes.
The platform has increasingly leaned on AI to manage this scale, building a solution with Microsoft Azure to help procurement teams manage supplier data more efficiently and integrate sustainability metrics directly into workflows.
EcoVadis’ recent work with Accenture points to where the real return on investment is heading. Their 2026 Sustainable Procurement Barometer found that leading organisations are increasingly seeing value from supplier innovation rather than compliance alone, with the strongest performers using their ratings data to co-develop solutions with suppliers rather than simply screening them.
