“ In reality, LLMs are trained across multiple knowledge domains, which allows them to handle broad, layered questions and draw implications that lead to good conclusions.”
Cutting the small talk: Chatbots can save time At IBM, the procurement team has identified significant time savings in complex processes such as supplier onboarding, often littered with issues such as extensive manual coordination across multiple systems and stakeholders.
While still in its early stages, IBM’ s procurement team, which has worked as the test subject for the role of this chatbot, estimates it could lead to about 26,000 hours a year in savings, according to Suzanne.
IBM’ s internal procurement team’ s time savings from AI agent implementation demonstrate the potential:“ Things like onboarding a supplier, executing an order, getting a view of supplier risk. I’ m using Coupa for my ordering system, maybe another company’ s using a different ordering system – that should be irrelevant. Let me plug in whatever system I’ m using as a tool that these agents can execute against.”
Rather than being constrained by individual system limitations, AI agents can orchestrate processes across multiple platforms, reducing complexity that has historically plagued procurement technology implementations.
Processes which traditionally require extensive manual verification, documentation review and cross-system data entry can now be coordinated automatically by AI agents whilst maintaining the necessary compliance and risk management standards.
