PROCUREMENT TECHNOLOGY
Simultaneously, we evaluated our current processes and where we wanted them to be. We then prioritised our source-to-contract processes end-to-end, including systems. When we started, we were using more than 90 applications, 40 systems, 18 ERPs and five source-to-pay systems, so our digital transformation has also been about consolidation of systems.
We introduced new digital procurement capabilities, including tail spend management, while investing heavily in digital adoption through bootcamps, webinars and open-door sessions to drive ongoing engagement. By building digital capability alongside digital products, we created a digital culture where innovation is embraced, not just implemented.
Q. HOW ARE YOU USING AI, AND HOW IS IT DRIVING ROI?

» AI and automation are embedded in daily procurement activities. Intelligent workflows automate repetitive tasks, conversational AI accelerates access to information and digital products deliver trusted insights at the point of decision. As a result, procurement teams have shifted from searching for data to actioning insights.

We’ re also leveraging AI already built into our existing providers and tools for tail-spend management, e-auctions and autonomous sourcing. We’ re also working closely with our Tech & Data team at Kenvue on what we can build in-house, such as contract mining and reading specifications when we launch sourcing events. The biggest initiative has probably been working with our Market Insight team to create an agent-driven process that gives real-time market insight and helps the team action that information.
Q. WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU LEARNED DURING THIS TRANSFORMATION?

» First, leadership support for designing a fit-for-purpose operating model and putting the right team in place is critical. Then, make sure you have the right people in the right roles.

“ Some things are non-negotiable. We couldn’ t afford to miss an ERP transition deadline or risk an AP transition that meant suppliers weren’ t paid on time”
