Are you seeing this creating almost a positive feedback loop, because businesses want to be more sustainable to gain those badges and drive more business to them? Yes, you’ re absolutely right. As more than half of Amazon Business sales come from independent sellers, mostly from small and medium-sized organisations, they strive to gain those certifications so they can surface better. Sustainability certifications are visible to all buyers – they create discoverability and differentiation for small businesses that invest in responsible practices. This is a flywheel where suppliers want to have EcoVadis sustainable badges and buyers want to see them, and I think in that way we participate in increasing responsible purchasing.
Given the regulations in the UK and EU currently, and those that are going to be introduced, why do you think it’ s so important that you drive this? ESG transparency has become essential for most organisations. But it’ s not only about compliance; it’ s customers recognising that reducing their footprint as a core driver of long-term business value.
Many institutions and companies alike strive to set their ESG objectives – in fact, over a third of decision-makers and senior leaders want procurement to dedicate more time and resources toward ESG goals and sourcing from certified suppliers.
