PROCUREMENT TECHNOLOGY
You’ ve found the right tech, so why is the implementation failing? Ask why an AP rollout underdelivered, and the conclusion rarely points to the software itself. More often, organisations struggle because they haven’ t aligned around the business value they’ re trying to achieve, haven’ t invested enough in adoption across the organisation, or haven’ t dedicated the right resources to drive the change.
“ I see the most success with projects that begin with a clear business objective. From there, it’ s about investing heavily in user adoption and change management while ensuring the right people remain engaged throughout the implementation,” says Ari.“ Technology is an important part of the equation, but it’ s only one piece.”
Agreeing, Emily adds:“ The most successful implementations share one characteristic: a senior business sponsor who treats the project as a change management initiative from day one, defining what success looks like before a single line of configuration is written and keeping the business aligned through every stage. When the foundation is in place, the technology has something to land on. Without it, even the best software will underperform.”
AP’ s future AP teams of tomorrow will spend far less time on manual data entry and more time acting as business advisors. As automation takes over
transactional work, the most valuable AP professionals will be those who can analyse data, generate meaningful insights and communicate those insights to finance leadership and the broader business.
“ This shift will place greater importance on skills like analytical thinking and strong communication,” says Ari.“ AP teams will need to understand what the numbers are telling them so they can translate that information into actionable recommendations
